Last days of summer

It was still nice weather since the last time I posted anything and we thought we would head out again, but no such luck. The gasfitter was coming to hook up the propane, then the tanks were filled, and then the electrician came to hookup the generator to the propane. All this in the span of 2 weeks, add to that some volunteer fire fighting meetings for Tim,  and well, we didn't go anywhere but the grocery store. No complaints though. We live on a beautiful property where we still are discovering new trails. Some of them slightly overgrown, but were working on opening them up and marking them.

The weather was really nice though, and feeling sorry for Stella, who loves to swim, we took her for a swim at Cooks Dock. We were tempted to go in as well since the water felt pretty good, and there are steps in the wharf, but bailed at the last moment.

And then from warm and not that windy, we suddenly went into rain and lots of wind. So it all worked out. We also enjoy sitting on our beautiful porch and, because of the windy weather, had quite a few boaters over for a hike followed by drinks, followed, in some cases, by a dinner.

Then our friends Andrew and Robin came from Nova Scotia to visit for a week. They were on a camping tour with their camper and parked it on a level surface on the property. Guests that bring their own bedroom and bathroom. What more do you want!

We took them sailing for an afternoon. That was possibly the best sail of the year. Both sails flying, 10 to12 knots on the beam and no waves. Had a beer at the Split Rail after to toast to this. A nice day.

Also too them to the Mississagi Lighthouse, built in the 1800s to show a safe passage to the North Channel from Lake Huron. There is a magnetic reef there and boats would lose their compass. It offers a beautiful view and also has a small museum in the lighthouse to show what life was like there.

After they had left we did go out on the boat, after catching up with the grass cutting and other chores. The winds were light, but forecasted to go to the east. Because of that we opted to go to Croker where you are protected against any winds except maybe when you are dealing with strong winds (more than 20 knots) from a westerly direction. Then a surge will come in. Wonderful anchorage once all traffic has left the area. It was just us and our friends on Aerie, Dave and Cheryl, and Northern Endeavour, Glen and Margaret. Pretty sweet. Went for a dinghy ride to explore the east side of Croker. We had heard about anchorages there that offer superb protection against west winds. sure enough. Found a really nice anchorage with a view of the La Cloche Mountains. This picture is taken from the beach of the anchorage.

Also met Glen and Margaret in their kayaks.



Went home the next day to get ready for Colin's, Sydney's and Brie's visit, friends from London, who spend the fall at their cottage outside of Bancroft and drove from there.
