As you can tell from the pictures here the layout of the kitchen doesn't offer a lot of space around the stove and even though it is a big space, with another counter for small appliances, the area is not big enough to put a permanent kitchen island in.
So, a new island, not too big and not too small had to be found that can serve as an island between the counter and the dining area, but that can also be an extension of the counter. An island was found, ordered and, once received, assembled. It works very well and I like to be able to look out off the window while preparing a meal, but also like the extension beside the stove. The room you see behind the island is the utility and storage room, so it is nice to be able to just move the island if you have to be there.
