More beer, sightseeing, dinner and hikes

Colin and Sydney arrived on Friday, September 14 with their dog Brie in the afternoon and planned to leave again on Sunday. Needless to say that we tried to show them as much as possible in such a short time. While I cooked dinner, Tim took them for a hike on the main trail. It is the shortest of them all and reasonably easy to walk. Previous owners had left, as is pretty normal here on farms, various things in the woods and one of them is an old vehicle. We're not sure if it's a truck or a car, but it sure led to some funny pictures.

As you can see, Stella came along for the ride.

Next day, after a leisure, lazy morning, we all went to Gore Bay in Colin's and Sydney's car. It was a very noisy ride and almost in Gore Bay Tim said to Colin that he thought that his right rear wheel bearing was shot. Gore Bay does have luckily enough, a GM dealer and we stopped in to see what could be done. Not much on that day, it being Saturday, and the shop was closed, but if they were to come back on Monday, the mechanic could have a look at it. And thus their plans changed and they would stay at least till Tuesday, and that gave us more time to show them the island, but in our cars, not theirs. That would stayed parked at our house till Monday.
As planned we showed  them the boat. Sydney does not like sailing, but Colin does. The plan is for him to come up on his own next year, and we will take him out for a few nights, while Sydney is on a trip to Tuscany with her friends. After we showed them the boat, we just had to show them the famous brewery "The Split Rail". Dave and Cheryl had just come back from Croker and were game for a beer as well, so were Margaret and Glenn.

Now that C,S,B had at least 2 full unplanned days tacked on to their stay we decided to go to Providence Bay. We had always seen the beaches while driving to and from the ferry, but never had taken the time to stop and explore. Had heard many good things about it and were curious. Beautiful beach, but no dogs allowed, which we only found out later. There was no sign at the stairs we used to get to the beach. 

After that we had dinner at Buoys in Gore Bay. We always seem to have pizza there. Every time I promise myself that I will order something else, but their pizza is so good ...

Got up early the next morning and Colin and Tim took the car in. They left in separate cars, just in case. The mechanic confirmed that Tim had been right. It was the bearing and as luck had it, the shop had the part in stock. After 2 hours the car was fixed and they both came home. Off we went for one last trip on the island.Went to Meldrum Bay. Stunning weather once again.
   

They sure were lucky with the weather. The next day they left.

Since they left we have had the woodstove going for an evening or two

Looking at the weather, we knew that we wouldn't go out anymore and that it was that time of year that you start to decommission the boat. The sails are off now and we took all our supplies, toiletries and clothes home. It is a bit of a riddle where I'm going to put everything. I always used the kids' bedrooms and dressers as storage for boat stuff, but now...? Oh well, I will find a place.
