We didn't have a white Christmas after all. We had snow a few days before, and it all looked very pretty
But it wasn't very cold. This what we ended up with
Friends had invited us over for dinner at their house, so we had the day to ourselves. While glorifying in doing absolutely nothing, I realized that, ever since we moved to Manitoulin I haven't had to cook any Christmas dinners. We have hosted New Year dinners though, so I don't feel any guilt. This year was fondue again, and we all stayed up till midnight. The new year was appropriately greeted with a glass of Cava.
Since there isn't too much happening here because of COVID restrictions, it might be time to talk weather. After all, we are Canadians, and as such, obsessed over this.
I guess we can safely say that winter has arrived. We have had some snow. Some days we got 10 cm, some just 5, and one day 15. There were long stretches of nothing in between days with snowfall, and reasonably mild temperatures. All this compacted the snow to about 10 cm. Enough to make regular walking through the woods cumbersome, but just enough to justify the use of snowshoes. Not for the groomed trails though. They, after grooming, show bare spots. Patiently we wait and snowshoe here on our property.
And then we woke up last week and the temperature outside was -23C. And with that we are now heading into 2 weeks of cold, cold weather, starting with another snowfall of 10 cm. Toronto, on the other hand, had a blizzard!
