Fall is here

The mighty Pinnacle II has been put on the hard and winterized. Aerie is beside her and our old boat Winsome II is in front of Aerie. All this purely coincidental. Funny how that works.

Till that day we still had some decent weather, with sun and average temperatures of the mid-teens, and the odd rain shower. But then all hell broke loose. From a drought in the summer we went to the complete opposite; storms with lots of rain. Three trees blew over in the forest and one tree on the edge of the property, that was already a feeding "ground" for the woodpeckers, broke in two.

We just hoped that the weather would clear up a bit when our friends Peter and Theresa were going to be here for a visit.
The day of their arrival was just terrible. It poured, and poured a bit more. There was no end to it. We made up for it by having a nice Japanese dinner cooked by Theresa (you have to love guests who bring dinner for all!), and having an old fashioned good old time.


After that there was a bit of clear weather and Tim took Peter for a ride, we hiked the land and Peter and Theresa explored Misery Bay and Gore Bay. We all had a good time and it was sad to see them go.

The fall colours were pretty good as well.

After they had left it was time to get some work done. The garage/shed that came with the house was not big enough for our cars and all the toys/tools, so we bought a shelter.

As you can tell from the picture it is really a very big tent, and we made sure to buy extra anchors for it, so we really could securely anchor the frame into the ground. Dave helped Tim setting up the frame and then we put the canvas on. Trailer, SUV, snowblower, etc. are all in this shelter and the cars are in the shed. Plans are being made for a garage addition with either a loft or an slightly elevated extension for a granny suite. 

Also had to cut some more wood. There were the trees that had come down in the storm, but also some diseased ones that we had identified while looking for all the storm damage.

Stella did her usual supervisory job.

There were also a lot of just nice walks (we still find it hard to believe that we actually own all this land), with lots of fungi to admire,  most of them poisonous (might be a scarlet hood/scarlet waxcap according to our daughter Maaike)




 but not this one, a puffball.
 
and leaves to kick. Have to be careful with that though since those leaves cover the occasional rock as I can tell from experience.
