vacation 2012 part 2

We are back in Lucan now after spending 4 weeks on Georgian Bay. Had a really fast, uneventful trip up, with no wind the first day and temperatures of 30 something. I (Bice) was so hot, that I turned the deck washdown system on and took a shower on the foredeck. No pictures of this and not sorry about that either. Reported a deadhead at the Watchers to the coast guard and that was the excitement of the day. Anchored in 12 Mile Bay and had the new 12 volt fan running for a few hours (has a timer) when we went to bed. Best purchase of the year! Left for Pointe au Baril the next day at 6 in the morning. Beautiful sunrise.

Wind calm again. Had a chance to put up some sail at the end, but diesel once again was our friend.

Arrived at Covered Portage at 3:30ish and had some really good swimming there. Also met Karl and Mila, the owners of Quintessence. As mentioned in the previous posting, we had to leave in a hurry to get batteries in Little Current. Aside from batteries, we had the usual icecream and fish and chips for dinner. Didn't plan to visit a marina for another 2 weeks, so did some minor restocking of fresh vegetables and bread. We left the next day for Croker. Winds were forecasted for the East and Croker offers good protection. If you click on the link, you will see that the Benjamin Island are to the west and offer protection against most winds but East. It is quite normal to see boats going between these 2 islands. They are stunningly beautiful and some (us included) have trouble leaving the place.

Here a picture of our days there. Met up with Tugg'n and Heart Tug. Fran felt an urge to feed the ducks.

Left for Hotham after a few days and met up with Georgian Mist and they showed us all the rocks that one can possibly find there.

They also warned us about the deerflies and mosquitos. They weren't kidding. We left after 2 days, sad as that was. The bugs, according to a local, were a second generation and this one did not realize that they are supposed to die when temperatures hit mid 20s and up. Left for the Benjamins, where there was a nice wind blowing, and the swimming was great. Tim also felt an urge to jump over some rocks.

Of course the wind shifted and we went back to Croker, where there was an old fashioned 5 o'clock at the rocks cocktail hour.

We also were told about this really nice swimming hole at Porcupine Island
