Last cranes?

I started to write this entry in Ocober, so now is as good a time as any to finally finish this and then post it. You basically get a snapshot of 2 months and a bit. We were just too busy.

We saw some northern lights. The picture is more impressive than the experience we had. We saw streaks glowing and fading in the sky. One of our friends took this picture. He used a shutter time of 20 seconds.

 I also saw and heard a bunch of cranes flying south. Fall has definitely arrived, and the colours are at their peak here on the island.

Well, that was then, but 1 week later we had this

Then we had a few weeks of stunning weather, warm temperatures (for us) in the mid-to high teens and sun, with the occasional rain, and no wind. All this meant that the leaves did not fall. Made for this stunning picture in the setting sun. These leaves are on a regular, sunny fall day yellow, but there they were, as red as can be

Since there was no wind, those leaves hung on for dear life, until we had some frosty nights. That's when they decided to drop all at once. With no wind to spread them around into the woods, mulching seemed a good idea. And so it came about that Tim cut the grass late October.

We also had our fair share of wildlife around the house

And this landed in the kitchen. Sure was a strange catch. 18 pounds of turkey disguised as smoked fish. A nice turkey dinner was enjoyed to celebrate Tim's birthday.

In the meantime the nice, sunny weather continued and this was the sad situation on November 1st. 

A week later the Christmas lights were taken out and hung while the weather was still glorious. 

And 2 weeks later we signed up for curling. Yes, Tim and Bice curl twice a week in Gore Bay, sweeping the ice, pushing rocks, and in general have a good time. Did you know that the Scots invented 2 sports that are frustrating? Yes, curling is one of them. We sweep the ice, push rocks, and hope for the best. We will learn eventually, progress has already been seen by us and other club members. Hopefully we will not have too many falls while sweeping the ice.

And for anybody who is wondering how the addition is coming along ... well, the loft has its vapour barriers, and is waiting for the drywall. The garage is starting to get organized, but won't be ready for drywalling any time soon, and the foyer? Well, it's coming along. The mudroom was extended to connect the house to the garage and loft, and will be our main entrance. We're in the process of putting pine tongue and groove on, and try to match what's already there as closely as possible. The pine will still have to be stained in the spring, and a transition piece will have to be put in to cover the seam between old and new, but at least it will be on. Then we have to figure out how to finish the ceiling (all pine, or drywall), and then the floor.
