Fall came, but it felt like summer.

 Shame on us for not posting anything for 2 months or so. Not because of a lack of activities. It was just pure laziness.

We had beautiful fall weather with temperatures in the  20s in September,  followed by an October with temperatures in the mid-teens. All that with a lot of sun. We went for some hikes, road trips, worked around the house, and waited for the fall colours to start. They came late, and were short lived.

Here some pictures of the past months with comments.

Went for a hike to High Falls at the Onaping river. The breccia (a rock formation) was either formed by a meteorite with a diameter of 10 km., or a single melt sheet. Other possibility is that it was formed because of a volcanic eruption. It is pretty unique on this planet, and NASA sent the crews of Apollo 16 and 17 there to study the geologic features that meteor impacts have on the formation of craters, breccias and the likes.

We also went for a hike to the Battery Bluff, just around the corner from us. The trail is pretty short and easy to walk. I picked a few juniper berries while there, admiring the stunning view of the North Channel.

Also got some more bulbs, some bought, some given, so had to do some digging. This is the potential Prince I dug up, but, I'm sad to say, did not kiss him. Just relocated him to a nice, shady, undisturbed spot and he buried himself again. I keep calling this amphibian "he", but maybe it is a"she". I will never know.

Fall did of course come, but it took forever. Here a picture taken on September 29, and the colours are just starting. 

This picture is taken on a piece of our property that we are planning to sell. We're in the process if severing 12 acres off at the South end of our land. We don't go there very often and we figured we have enough on our hands with the remainder of the land. It had an old hunting stand on it, that fell down last year which we cleaned up, and we did some general clean up  of downed trees and the likes, to open it up a bit. We will see if anybody wants to buy it and build. We would have when we were still looking.

 Tim turned 60 (finally) and a dinner with friends took place. I had given him the choice of Indonesian, ham, or turkey, since we also celebrated Thanksgiving. An old-fashioned Indonesian dinner was the choice. I tried to make it a surprise dinner party with friends, but somebody that we will not mention here, gave it away. Pumkin and apple pie for dessert. No pics of the dinner though, just the pies.

We have seen a lot of partridges lately in our woods and they're not afraid. Just too bad that their colours merge with the environment they live in.

To make up for the lack of colours in the pictures, we instead bought some colourful paintings. The painter is Brian Waboose. We saw his work for the first time while sitting in the optometrist's waiting room and liked it enough to  contact him. Instead of buying one painting, we bought two. Time to visit other galleries. There are quite a few on the island here that we haven't been to yet.

Days are getting colder now, and Halloween came and went. We fell back in time and now it's dark at 5.30. Time to think about putting up some Christmas lights out there.
