We have had some pretty grey weather here, mild temperatures, and no snow so to speak of. The snow that we do have is a leftover from December. Made for some fun January walks though.
Well, the mild weather is over and done with. Seems we're in for 2 weeks of regular winter weather, with a bit of snow. Also sunshine. Today was such a day. -3 and sunny. Went for my first snowshoe walk in 2 years. Into the woods I went, with Stella, and with my new hips. Did 1 km and a bit. Now I'm sitting in the lazy chair with my feet up, and a stupid smile on my face. I did it! Was on my own, so no pictures of my brave trek, but some "still lives" of said snow shoes and one of our biggest pine trees.
Tim went for a good hike that involved a big hill and took this shot. This road intersects with Cooks Dock Rd at the bottom of the hill.
In other news, we had a propane furnace installed this past week with all the duct work. The wood stove is still going strong, but when the weather is mild, it's too hot, and during the night she needs additional wood in order to keep the place warm. So, we bit the (silver) bullet and had it all installed. Will also come in handy once Tim is too old to cut wood. A win-win situation.
Nothing else happening here. With the province wide shutdown, and not supposed to go out, but for essentials and exercise, road trips are out and hosting or attending parties are out as well. We read a lot. Because of my previous work in a university setting we have access to a lot of newspapers and magazines. I read the newspapers, but also cooking magazines to get ideas of what to cook and then try several new ways of preparing old, familiar dishes, and also completely new ones. Friends are happily encouraging me. Hopefully this access to e-resources will last for a long time. Tim is studying the fire textbooks and filling out tests. Doing groceries and going for medical appointments are our outings. We do have a lot of Zoom meetings and phone calls with friends and family though, so we don't feel too estranged from our old social life.
Also had a zoom meeting with my 2nd cousin in Ottawa and her husband. We have never met and didn't know about each other until 3 or 4 years ago (a long story) and hope to meet up with them this year.
