Tim had volunteered to peel the carrots, and so he did, all 17 lbs of them. He may not make that offer next year. I cleaned the green beans, but it was only 5lbs, which is actually a lot.
Then off to the hall at 2 o'clock with the vegetables and my humongous steamer, to help in general in the kitchen, steam the veggies, and make the cranberry sauce. Most people in our township love turnips, made by another volunteer (who doesn't eat them), but they don't eat cranberry sauce. Leftovers went home with several people, and will no doubt make an appearance at dinner tables and in muffins. We then discovered that the dishwasher drain was leaking, but Tim got that fixed just before dinner started. There was enough turkey and stuffing to feed the crowd, enough vegetables, too much mashed potatoes. Lessons learned for next year.
Tim has in the meantime sent out a lot of pictures, here a repeat of some.
Snow squall coming in on Dec 11, the day of the Hall dinner. Everything was clear though in the afternoon.
Looking out of a back window, I saw this beauty. A huge young bald eagle.
Then we got some real snow and Stella took Tim for a walk to the dock.
Time to bake some cookies, and yes the "gevulde spekulaas" has been made as well.
A bit more snow,
and now it's all slowly melting. Have had temperatures of +2 to +5. There should be enough left on the ground though to make for a white Christmas (we hope). After that, we're not sure.
Made a tourtiere today, practicing my pie crust making and baking skills.
First hip will be replaced late February
