Got Wood 2019?

Hello faithful followers of this blog. It's that time of year again where one man's thoughts turn to all thing wood. Specifically...the use of wood as a heating fuel. In keeping with my policy of harvesting only dead fall or trees likely to fall soon because of rot or wood pecker holes that have weakened the tree...only those trees are taken. There is a short window for me to cut...when the leaves drop and before the heavy snow starts (and no bugs!). So a few maples have presented themselves during my walks of the forest. The one cut yesterday was 100 hundred years old (after careful counting of the rings). The base was 22 inches in diameter and each 16 inch long piece weighed almost 100 lbs given the moisture content. Heavy lifting indeed. This tree yielded 2 face cords cut and split. The plan is to have at least 2 to 3 years of seasoned wood.Today's high temp was 7 deg/c and sunny...perfect working weather in the woods.

 On a separate note...my chainsaw is having fits...it has an electronic carburator and has been hard to start. I did a reset following the manufacturer's instructions and changed the spark plug to no avail.
A trip to the chainsaw doctor is in the offing. The saw is just past the 1 year warranty period. Bummer.
