Had planned a rijsttafel for some friends from Gore Bay and Silver Water for last Friday but sadly we had to cancel this. Had done all the groceries, so lots of food here. Then the snow came and high winds, and with that, drifting. This was the result. Those are 1.5 meter drifts!
Cars would have gotten stuck in this. We cancelled and had we not done that, our guests had already planned to cancel. We were plowed out at 7:30 that evening. Dinner was rescheduled for Sunday, a nice sunny day. A few more sunny days are ahead of us with some milder temperatures, but apparently the next storm is already gearing up for Sunday. We will see. Tim did clear some snow off the roof to make room for more. Remember to click on the little picture for the big one.
If anybody wonders if we regret moving here, the answer is a firm "no". We love the house and property around it. We also see a lot of sun here. More than we saw in SW Ontario. A lot of people that see our pics have comment on this as well. And when we found ourselves complaining about the cold and all that white stuff, we asked each other "What do you rather have in winter, rain or snow?" We both had the same answer ready: "Snow!". Spring will arrive eventually.
Now...some various pictures I took of the property this afternoon.

Had to dig out the dryer vent.

Standby generator almost covered in snow.

This is what 4 feet of snow looks like.
Cut firewood. Go boating. Cut more firewood. Shovel snow. Go snow shoeing. Shovel more snow. REPEAT....
ReplyDeleteVery happy to hear you love it on the island.
Very best wishes
