Because of Tim's work we're not going for a 3-4 week holiday this year. Just extended weekends, but this last week we had 6 days planned. Went to the marina on July 31, left August 1st early in the morning and had planned to come back Tuesday, August 6. Winds were forecasted to be 15 knots from the West to Northwest. Those are of course the directions we have to sail into if we want to leave Penetang and get anywhere. Thought we would go to 12 Mile Bay. West is best for that and west we had. Lots of it. More that 15 and eye brows were raised and we wondered if we should take the inside channel. And then after 2 hours into the trip and still wondering what to do, the phone rang. One of Tim's computer customers who has a vet-clinic specializing in horses had a dead computer. Not much we could do at that point, but it did mean that we should be back in the marina on August 5th (civic holiday here in Canada, and also our anniversary), so Tim could take care of this on Tuesday. Minds were made up quickly after that. Forecast was for 3 days of 20 knots of wind with thunderstorms mixed in there. Water might be a bit unruly on Monday, so, we went to
Hockey Stick Bay
Dinner was good, really good. So was the wine. Can't get it in our area. That is sad. It's one of the few Chardonnays Tim will drink.
Very nice, very quiet, one other boat, except a cottage was being built around the corner and the beeping of machines was driving us crazy. Left the next morning for good old Beausoleil Island and anchored at
McCabe Rock. The sail from Hockey Stick to Beausoleil with this constant 15-20 knots NW made for a really nice sail. One tack 5-6 knots. Not that many boats there either. But listening to the radio we realized that everybody was heading north, like we had planned to do. Heard later tha
t all the anchorages north of us were full and the only spots to be gotten, was a slip at
Henry's fish restaurant. Staying close to home was a nice decision for a change, especially with the thunderstorms moving in
Cheryl and Dave joined us on Sunday, and Drew visited us on Monday before we were heading back to Penetang. Always a sight when he comes in for a landing.
The sail back to the marina, with this NW wind was great. Best weekend for sailing yet. Burned diesel for anchoring and docking. Dave and Cheryl had a bottle of Spanish sparkling wine on Monday to celebrate our day. Thank you again!
Driving home on Tuesday the phone rang, The customer had fixed his problem. It was a loose wire!
