Fall has arrived, finally

Summer just seemed to continue here, with sunny and warm days. Colours were not in full swing yet and some were saying that we would have a late fall, and that the leaves would be late to turn and then fall with the first storm.

We were really hoping to anchor out for Thanksgiving weekend. The forecast was calling for sun, temperatures around 15 and nights of 7. That is not very warm, but with the full enclosure and cooking a roast in the oven, and running this really nice oil lantern with paraffin,we thought we might be able to do it. The wind however had a different ideas and started up on Saturday morning. We saw 28 knots at the masthead at the dock, and decided to just stay put and read, walk the dog in a very green forest. This is Thanksgiving and the colours should be plentiful.

and plan where everything should go next year. Tim has big plans. He wants to relocate the batteries to bring more weight to the bow, so that the weight of davits and solar panels will not make the boat too stern heavy. He also finished installing the inverter (came with the boat but was installed in a spot that was really hard to access. So, peaceful at the dock with the wind howling. Had several visitors over the weekend as well and that was nice. Monday was a calm day, and sunny, so, down came the sails. Took those home and will have them inspected, also started to empty cupboards and such. Sad, considering we just launched her.

Continued the noble task of packing things up the weekend after, also cleaned the dinghy and loaded her and the outboard in the car. And then the real hard job started of building the frame for the winter cover. The boat came with a custom frame and tarp, but without instructions. We had one on the Winsome and figured it out based on that. Took half a day. Not bad. Will replace some fittings next year, and get a new cover. The one that the boat came with was in poor shape. We got rid of it and decided to put tarps over it.

Tim went up alone on Tuesday and winterized all systems, and on Wednesday she came out. Thank you Garry for helping Tim with the tarping of Pinnacle. Had he been on is own ....

Now we're home and the wind is blowing the leaves off the trees. Our high today was 7 and we had lake effect rain!
